    Overview of prevalence, diagnosis,  and management of depression and dementia  in the elderly population Further awareness of the prevalence of depression and dementia in the geriatric population. Understand the diagnosis of depression and dementia in the elderly. Learn about treatment options/management of depression and dementia.

    Overview of principles used in CBTI, including Stimulus Control, Sleep Restriction, and cognitive/educational components with special considerations for use with geriatric patients. Be able to differentiate sleep problems as a symptom vs. a disorder (insomnia). Identify 3 “P” factors in development of insomnia. Identify 2 biological sleep processes used in CBTI. Become aware of normal developmental changes in sleep patterns. Identify 3 major components of CBTI. Identify at least 2 modifications that may be required for geriatric patients.
