    2018 Education Summit

     

    Intended Audience: Educators, school counselors, school behavioral health providers, family/youth resource staff, resource officers, clinicians, and community members.

    With the increasing number of students experiencing trauma and addiction in the home, techniques are needed to provide the best support to the greatest number of students given limited and shrinking resources. This year’s Education Summit focuses on the development of practical skills that can be incorporated into daily lesson plans, school culture, and adopted by family and support providers.

    Registration: $120.00

    $120 Includes all training, continental breakfast, buffet lunch and 6 hours of Continuing Education Credits. Mental Health America of NKY & SWOH maintains responsibility for this program and its content.     Keynote Speaker: Mary Vicario, LPCC-S, Certified Trauma Specialist who holds a Certificate in Traumatic Studies from Bessel van der Kolk’s Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute

    Mary Vicario-From roots to Resilience: Healing, Resiliency and Hope for Family Centered Recovery

    • Identify and address the effects of addiction & trauma on brain development, belief systems, and behavior and self-esteem.
    • Distinguish and address, Mood Syntonic vs. Mood Dystonic Abuse; PTSD vs Comples PTSD and Bioligically Based Fear Responses
    • Idendify and directly support individuals and their caregivers in developing the healing power of postive connection and the five resilience factors found in people who overcome addiction and trauma.
    • Empower themselves and their staff to develop and srengthen their own resilience factors to help them stay healthy, strong and passionate about their work.

    Educational and Clinical Workshops Tracks will provide appropriate and practical interventions incorporating Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) by Life Worth Living and Sensory Solutions Toolkit and Mindful Music Moments by Stacy Sims, Founder of the True Body Project.

    Stacy Sims-Waiting to Exhale: Sensory Intervention for Stress and Trauma

    • Develop a understanding of how the body holds and exhibits stress and trauma and baic autonomic nervous system physiology.
    • Learn to read behavior as indication of ANS rhythem or dysregulation
    • Experience mindfulness techniques to have a baseline of self-understanding
    • Enlighten colleagues and clients/students to have agency over these simple methods

    Life Worth LIving-DBT for Educator and Clinicians

    • Understand what DBT is and who DBT skiills will help
    • Undertand options for intergrating DBT into the classroom
    • Walk away wiht at least 2 stills to be implemented immediately

    Includes the following topics:

    • Emotional Problem Solving for adolescents
    • Social-emotional curricula for middle school and high school students
    • Research
    • DBT prinicpals including orientation, dialectics, mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interperonal effectiveness
    • Implementation including how to incorporate into lesson planning
    • Classroom demo
