Background
BCA was established in 2010 and has had many accomplishments in reducing youth substance abuse rates and increasing community collaboration. However, the community continues to have challenges to overcome. Such challenges include the ever-changing landscape of new drug trends. BCA has focused its work on adapting to changes in drug trends, attending national and local training events, and communicating with law enforcement through, among other partners, the Northern Kentucky Drug Strike Force to ensure implementation of currently appropriate activities.
BCA is currently financially supported by two grants, a year 10 Drug-Free Communities Grant (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and a year 1 Strategic Partnerships Framework Grant (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration). BCA has an agreement with Mental Health America of Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio to serve as a fiscal agent for both grants. Employees associated with BCA are employees of MHA.
BCA seeks to meet the needs of Boone County, build capacity as a Coalition, and plan for sustainability potentially as a private non-profit organization.
