Building a Healthier Community: How Your Donation Supports Mental Health America of NKY & SWOH

Mental Health America of Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio (MHANKYSWOH operates almost exclusively from donations, grants, and your kind giving. When you give, you directly support a wide range of programs and services that promote mental wellness in our community. These initiatives help individuals in recovery, train professionals, and educate the public on vital mental health issues.
MHANKYSWOH is dedicated to its mission of promoting mental health and working to prevent mental illness and substance use disorders through education, advocacy, and service. The organization’s vision is to create a just, humane, and healthy society in which all people have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. Your support is crucial in making this vision a reality.
Empowering Individuals and Communities
MHANKYSWOH offers many services designed to help people on their recovery journeys. We offer peer recovery supporter certification classes, where those with lived experience are trained to professionally help others navigate their own paths to wellness. This creates a powerful, mutual support system built on empathy and understanding.
Our organization also hosts support groups for people in both mental health and substance use recovery, providing safe spaces for individuals to connect with peers and share their experiences. These groups are a cornerstone of our service, fostering community and reducing the isolation often associated with these challenges.
Training Professionals and First Responders
To strengthen our community’s ability to respond to mental health crises, MHANKYSWOH offers extensive training and education. We schedule specialized training and education courses for behavioral health professionals, ensuring they receive the most up-to-date knowledge and skills to serve their clients effectively.
Furthermore, we offer Mental Health First Aid certification programs tailored to several audiences: adults, teens, public safety and first responders, older adults, and people working with youth. These courses teach participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges. By training everyday citizens, we’re building a more resilient and compassionate community.
A valuable part of our work is the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training and certification for first responders in Hamilton County, Ohio. This specialized program equips police officers and other emergency personnel with the skills to safely and effectively de-escalate situations involving individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. This training increases safety for everyone involved and ensures people in crisis are connected with the appropriate resources, not just the legal system.
